Merle Eldon Dible, 84, longtime resident of Oakley, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Logan County Hospital, Oakley.

He was born July 27, 1929, in Thomas County near Menlo to Clarence and Lola (Keefer) Dible.

He married Delma Uhrich on Oct. 5, 1952, in Oakley. The couple resided on a farm south of Oakley until retiring and moving to Oakley in 1997. He spent his early years in Denver at the National Jewish Children's Hospital with bronchiectasis. He then spent the remainder of his youth on the family farm near Menlo, where he graduated from Menlo Consolidated School in 1948.

He enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, traveling throughout the U.S. and a special anniversary trip to Europe, helping with 4-H, serving on the church board as a deacon and Oakley Township Board.

His real passion was his animals. He liked anything with feathers, fins, fur, hooves and antlers. His joy was sharing his farm and zoo with area school children, which he did for many years. In later years, he enjoyed seeing those same kids bringing their children and then grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Clay Dible and wife, Jeannie, Wichita; a daughter, Nancy Bartell and husband, Don, Wamego; a brother, Harry Dible and wife, Lori; a sister, Judy Cooley and husband, Roy; two sisters-in-law, Glennis Boyd and husband, Lyle, and Laura Ann Holmberg; two grandchildren, Tina Dible and Dakota Bartell; a step-grandchild, Justin Londagin and wife, Jennifer; a great-grandchild, Shyloh Hawkins; two step-great-grandchildren, Grady Londagin and Brooklyn Londagin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and sister; a brother, Louis; two nieces, Joane Walker and Leslie Carlin; and an infant nephew, John Dible.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakley Christian Church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley.

Memorials are suggested to Oakley Christian Church, the Cave or the National Jewish Health-Pediatrics in care of the mortuary.

Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baalmannmortuary.com.
