Michael Augustine Jr., 79, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his home, following complications from dementia.

He was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Hays to Mike and Anna Augustine.

He married Mary Louise Tumberger on Oct. 17, 1964. He started working in Hays for Southwestern Bell/ AT&T and later transferred to Kansas City, retiring in 1991. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He enjoyed horse and dog races, going to the casino and watching the KU Jayhawks.

Survivors include his wife, of 48 years; two sons, Mark and wife, Dawn, Topeka, Michael and wife, Kim, Eudora; two daughters, Melissa, Prairie Village, and Michelle, Shawnee; three brothers; two sisters; and six grandchildren, Kayla and Josie Augustine, both of Topeka, and Ashton, Braden, Andrew and Aubrey Augustine, all of Eudora.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; four sisters; and a granddaughter, Alexandria Augustine.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a rosary at 10:15 a.m., both at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Catholic Community Hospice or Alzheimer's Association, both of Overland Park.
