Norbert Karlin, 94, Hays, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Sterling House, Hays.

He was born Oct. 26, 1918, in Catharine to Alexander and Sophia (Staab) Karlin. He was a graduate of La Crosse High School and attended Fort Hays State University.

He married Ninette Marcotte on June 3, 1945, in Hays. She preceded him in death Nov. 1, 1994. He was a salesman for S&W Supply in Hays for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Triangle during World War II.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed watching football, Kansas City Royals baseball, and hunting, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Karlin and wife, Sherry, Oswego, and Charlie Karlin and wife, Janet, Overland Park; two daughters, Mary Meiers and husband, Tom, Hays, and Pam Beilman and husband, Chuck, Arvada, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William, John, Al and Edgar Karlin; four sisters, Rose Leiker, Alexa Wolf, Josephine Leikam and Elizabeth Giebler; and a special friend, Rita Rupp.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military honors by Hays American Legion and VFW.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Ellis County or to Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
