Norman F. Schrant, 73, Victoria, died July 1, 2009, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born May 6, 1936, in Walker to Edward and Caroline (Hammerschmidt) Schrant.
He married Bernita (Rohr) on Oct. 5, 1957, in Victoria.
He worked for Midwest Energy for 35 years at the Gorham and Hays offices and retired in 1996.
He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Victoria. He was a member of the Victoria Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years and was fire chief for nine years. He was a member of Ellis County Fire Department for 35 years.
He was an avid fishermen, hunter and gardener.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Larry Schrant and wife, Teresa, Hays, Rick Schrant and wife, Janene, WaKeeney, and Jim Schrant, Norfolk, Neb.; two brothers, Vernon Schrant and wife, Armella, Anthony, and Everett Schrant and wife, Alice Marie, Gorham; two sisters, Frances Schroeder and husband, William, Kent, Wash., and Regina Irvine and husband, Tom, Manhattan; his father-in-law, Alfred "Fritz" Rohr, Victoria; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Schrant.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671, from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the mortuary.
A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today, a Knights of Columbus rosary with the Victoria Volunteer Fire Department joining at 7 p.m., followed by a vigil at 7:30 p.m., all at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, in care of the mortuary.
I grew up in Gorham, and didn't know Norman, but my older brothers (last name of Copp) did know him. Your family is in my prayers.
