Opal Margarette Harris, 98, Hays, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 11, 1916, Gettysburg Township, Graham County to Rollie John and Della Elma (Grant) Fortune. She was a 1936 graduate of Lenora Rural High School.

She married Adolph Elwood Harris on Dec. 18, 1946, in Hoxie. He preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1994. After graduating from high school, she taught school for 12 years. After she married Adolph, they lived in Hoxie until 1954 when they moved to Colorado. In June of 1988, they moved back to Hoxie, and in 1991, due to health reasons, they moved to Hays. She enjoyed her students and kept in touch with some of them her entire life.

Survivors include a nephew, Ron Wallis, Superior, Neb.; three nieces, Debbie Musselman, Denver, Patti McLaughlin, Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Connie Moore; two sisters-in-law, Leona Sauer, Wichita and Mabel Harris, Hill City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Emmett Edward (Jack) Fortune; two sisters, Ruth Maureen Wallis and Marlene Bengtson; a nephew and two nieces.

Services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie; burial in Penokee Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, both at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie.

Memorials are suggested to donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
