Pauline R. Smith, 88, formerly of Winona, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam.

She was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Trego County to Joseph Frank and Regina (Reightmeier) Flax.

She married Harold W. Smith on Dec. 31, 1940, in Oakley. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Carroll Smith, Ensign, and Ron Smith, Overland Park; a daughter, Velma Irish, Gardner; two sisters, Betty Eaton Shipley, Oakley, and Minnie Rufenacht, Ness City; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Connie Warfield and Ellen Smith; four brothers, John, Carl, Frank and Steven; an infant brother, Willey Flax; three sisters, Frances Aschenbrenner, Rosie Stieben and Helen Creese; and four infant sisters: Mary, Regina, Clara and Lovina Flax.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley.

A rosary/wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Cemetery Fund or Logan County Healthcare Foundation in care of the funeral home.
