Phyllis J. Pifer, 79, Russell, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Russell Regional Hospital.

She was born June 7, 1933, in Plainville to Loyd and Julia Thompson. She was a 1950 graduate of Natoma High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in education in May 1979 from Fort Hays State University. She furthered her education and received a master of science degree from FHSU in 1984.

She married Rex L. Boyd on Sept. 24, 1950, east of Natoma. He preceded her in death April 29, 1985. She later married Robert "Bob" D. Pifer on Aug. 7, 1993, in Palco. She taught at Bickerdyke Elementary School, Russell.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Lance Boyd, Gardner, and Wesley Boyd, Oklahoma City; four stepchildren, Tamera Kemp, Greg Pifer, Patricia Johnson and Leslie Bracket; a sister, Mary L. Edson, Friendswood, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Otterbein United Methodist Church; graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Natoma City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Otterbein United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
