Ralph William Honas, 86, Ellis, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Ransom to John and Frances (Weber) Honas.

He married Julia Ann Younker on Aug. 30, 1949, in Ellis. He was a painting contractor, railroader, oilfield worker and an elevator operator at Golden Belt Co-op.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Ellis Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Ellis; 10 children, Jim Honas and wife, Lauree, Doris Collins and husband, Ed, Susan Eaton, Bernice Karlin and husband, Mark, all of Ellis; Alice Long and husband, Rand, Falls Church, Va., Robert Honas and wife, Debbie, Newton, Kenneth Honas and wife, Christine, and Christopher Honas and wife, Lori, all of Wichita; Rosemarie Duncan and husband, Richard, Ellis, and Janice Aschenbrenner, Wichita; five siblings, Helen Wiesner and Marcella Wiesner, both of Billings, Mont., Laurene Evans, St. Mary, Ga., Stella Schoenberger, Aurora, Colo., and Norbert Honas, Ellis; 30 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ralph Jr. and Richard; a daughter, Patricia; two brothers, John Honas Jr. and Herman Honas; and two sisters, Katherine Gnad and Mary Wiesner.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in St. Mary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, both at the church.

A Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a vigil at 8 p.m., both at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Church in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.
