Richard Lee Kerns, 79, Palco, formerly of Russell, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Wheatland Nursing Center, Russell.

He was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Greenwood County, to Henry and Maizie  (Banks) Kerns.  

He married Verla Marie Lambert on Nov. 24, 1953, in Clayton, N.M.  He worked in the oil field mainly on pulling units or  as  a pumper.    

Survivors include three sons, Michael "Mike" Kerns, Webster, Richard "Rick" Kerns, Fairport,  and Ernie "Joe" Kerns, Plainville; two daughters, Sheryl Kuntzsch, Palco, and Theresa "Terri Lynne" Jerome, Hays; two brothers, David, Sawyer and Steve, Maize; a sister, Melva "Kitten" McKelfish, Plainville; nine  grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.    

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell; a private family burial of ashes will follow at a later date.

There will be no visitation, creamtion has taken place.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary.
