Richard Schindler
Richard "Shindig" Schindler, age 39, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., passed away June 21, 2008, at Skydive Elsinore at Lake Elsinore in Riverside County, Calif.
He was born December 20, 1968, in Great Bend, Kansas to Henry and Bernadine (Schultz) Schindler.
He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1987.
He obtained the rank of 1st Sgt. and was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 12 years in the Special Forces and three years as a drill sergeant. His personal decorations consist of the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars, Navy Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars, Combat Action Ribbon with one Gold Star, Good Conduct Medal with six stars, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with seven stars.
He had been skydiving for 15 years and had completed over 3,000 jumps. He was an instructor and former National Champion Skydiver. He had shot video as a member of various skydiving teams, and shot video of the Elsinore Matriz and the Elsinore Select, an all-women¬¹s skydiving team who competed worldwide.
He was recently employed by the Riverside County, Calif., Sheriff¬¹s Department.
He married Setsuko Reich February 18, 2002, in California.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Gage and Gavin of the home. His father, Henry Schindler and step-mother Judy Schindler of Great Bend; mother Bernadine Schultz of McCracken; a brother, Don Schindler of Newton; two step-brothers, Kenny Pedigo of Maize and Darrell Pedigo of Hays; one stepsister, Tammy Wheeler of Great Bend; his grandparents, Harold Schultz of Hays and Iola Depperschmidt of Hays.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Vera Schindler.
A memorial service was held at the England Family Mortuary in Temecula, Calif, on Friday, June 27, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life was held after the memorial service at Skydive Elsinore.
