Richard E. "Pete" Peterson, 62, Russell, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at Russell Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 29, 1950, in Clay Center to Marvin John and Wilma I. (Gingles) Peterson.
He grew up in Clay Center and graduated from Clay Center High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a roofer and certified nurse's assistant. He was a member of the American Legion.
He married Nancy Ruth Elliott on May 16, 1969, in Topeka.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, Wilma Peterson, Lyons; two sons, Richard A. Peterson and Marvin J. Peterson, Chapman; a daughter, Samantha Phillips, Russell; three brothers, Jim Peterson, Manhattan, Bob Peterson, California, Mo., and Donny Peterson; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pohlman-Vaner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell, with military rites performed by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, with family available to greet guests from 6 to 7 p.m. He was cremated, and a private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Pete Peterson Memorial Fund in care of the mortuary.
