Robert Lee 'Bob' Befort

Robert Lee "Bob" Befort, 79, Ellis, died Friday, May 27, 2011.
He was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Munjor to Isador and Rose (Urban) Befort. He attended Catholic school in Hays and was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph's Military Academy.
He married Ernestine J. Schoenthaler on Oct. 14, 1953, in Hays. They lived together in Hays, where he was a self-employed plumber for several years. They later moved to Ellis, where they raised their family and were enjoying their retirement years. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Ellis, and Eagles Lodge No. 3774, WaKeeney.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years; two sons, Dale Befort and wife, Mary, Victoria, and Dean Befort and wife, Tammy, Wichita; four daughters, Patricia Bertrand and husband, Randy, Minneapolis, Joyce Brungardt and husband, David, Glen Carbon, Ill., Rose Tway and Crystal Armbrister and husband, Mark, all of Ellis; a brother, Ronald Walter and wife, Pam, Albuquerque, N.M.; five sisters, Leona Fross, Hays, Marcella Dreiling, Chapman, Rosemary Gerstner, Conyers, Ga., Sr. Mary Alice Walters, Cudahy, Wis., and Janet Gerstner and husband, Jude, Overland Park; 11 grandchildren, Amadee Staab and husband, Jayme, Brandon Befort, Brandy Bertrand, Andrea Hernandez and husband, Nick, Amanda Lopez and husband, Ramon, Cheryl Jabara and husband, Jason, Dustin Befort, Jennifer Harms and husband, Brad, Joshua Tway, Logan Armbrister and Morgan Armbrister; and six great-grandchildren, Brantlee and Kaymbree Staab, Annicka and Alexander Hernandez, and Madelyn and Allison Jabara.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Walters; a brother, Ralph Walters; and eight sisters, Rita Walters, Merriam Walters, Cecelia Wolf, Mary Pfeifer, Wilma Isengard, Frances Schmidt, Katherine Schmidt and Alice Windholz.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637
A Knights of Columbus rosary and vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday, both at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Ellis County or Good Samaritan Society-Ellis, in care of the funeral home.
