Roma Lee Mellick Blau, 81, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at Via Christi Village, Hays.

She was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Beardsley to Del and Addie (Winslow) Porter. She was a 1949 graduate of Atwood Community High School.

She married Lyle Dean Mellick on Oct. 2, 1949. He preceded her in death May 12, 1993. She later married Hale Blau on Feb. 14, 1998. He preceded her in death June 27, 2000. She was district secretary for the Rawlins County Soil Conservation District for 24 years. She resided in the house at 512 South Railroad Ave. in Atwood for 58 years. In 2009, she moved to Hays and lived at Via-Christi Health Care Center until her death.

She enjoyed flowers, bowling, playing cards, collecting Santa Claus's and gambling. Her favorite past time was fishing and telling stories.

Survivors include a son, Ron Mellick and wife, Mary, Hays; a daughter Melody Antholz and husband, Eric, Riverton, Neb.; a twin sister, Norma Dee Holthus, Atwood; two sisters, Idella Schriner, Dodge City, and Connie Gordon, Houston; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald; a great-grandson, Harley Antholz; a sister, Jennie; and a brother, Russell Porter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Atwood; burial in Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Via Christi Residents Benefit or Atwood United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in care of the funeral home.
