Rosabel Flax, 64, Ness City, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Abilene after a two-month battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 9, 1950, in Hays to Fred and Lucille (Dreiling) Flax. She was a graduate of Ellis High School and earned a bachelor's degree at Marymount College and a master's degree at Fort Hays State University.
She spent more than 41 years dedicating herself to educating others. Through the years, she taught math and sciences classes in Marquette, St. Joseph's-Shawnee, Herndon, Palco, Plainville, La Crosse and Ness City. She was a principal in Plainville, Little River and Moundridge. She also taught classes for Colby Community College and Cloud County Community College. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Ness City, and Sacred Heart Altar Society, a Sister of St. Joseph Agregee and a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Survivors include her mother; a sister, Paula Dinkel, and husband, Allen; her nieces, Emily Gibson and husband, Jason, daughters Delaney and Dakota, Wendy Dinkel and husband, Ryan Conrade, and Macey Dinkel.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.
A rosary/vigil will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
