Russell 'Russ' Louis Harvey

Russell "Russ" Louis Harvey, 85, Russell, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, of complications from pneumonia at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, to Ross and Hazel (Shane) Harvey.

He married Ruth Ailene Daubendiek on Sept. 20, 1946, in Jefferson, Iowa. He was a longtime businessman, owning and operating Tower Auto Plaza and Tower Wholesale and Leasing Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a longtime supporter of the Russell community. He served on the board of Russell Regional Hospital, was a member of Russell American Legion, First Congregational Church, Elks Lodge and Shriners.

Survivors include his wife, Russell; three daughters, Stephany Harvey and Michael Thrasher, Independence, Iowa, Susan Winchester and husband, Ray, Gibbon, Neb., and Kathleen Harvey and Arnie Whaley, Russell; a sister, Bethane Barber, Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, Robert Espe, Iowa City, James Winchester and wife, Kristin, Gibbon, Jake Winchester and wife, Christina, Denver, Kristie Crane and husband, Scott, Avondale, Ariz., and Luke Harvey and wife, Mary, Edgerton; and four great-grandchildren, Nick and Dylan Crane, Ray Winchester and Norah Harvey.

Per his request, there will be no services and his body will be donated to assist in medical education to the Mayo Foundation in Rochester, Minn.

Memorials are suggested to First Congregational Church of Russell, 209 E. Wisconsin, Russell, KS 67665.
