Russell L. Benedict, 52, Lenexa, longtime Hays resident, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 22, 1960, in Tulsa, Okla., to Bobby L. and Mary (Russell) Benedict.

He married Jean Wannamaker on Sept. 19, 1987, in Ellis. He was manager for Midwest Drug in Hays from 1983 to 2007 and was employed at Hobby Lobby as a manager at the Lee's Summit, Mo., store from 2007 until his death.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, of the home in Lenexa; his mother, Mary F. Benedict, Hays; a brother, Robert D. Benedict and wife, Gayleen, and his daughter, Mattie, Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Linda S. and husband, Tim Cross, Merriam; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby L. Benedict.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at North Oak Community Church, 3000 Oak; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, both at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, is in charge of arrangements.
