Robert J. Sander, 86, Victoria, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born April 9, 1926, northwest of Victoria to Joseph A. and Theresa (Quint) Sander. He graduated from Victoria High School.

He was a farmer and worked for NKC Grain Co. and as a welder for Ellis County Road and Bridge Department. He retired in 1991. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Third Degree and Fourth Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751, all of Victoria. He held state offices in the VFW as past district commander and past state commander.

He enjoyed his family and playing cards.

Survivors include a sister, Lauraine Drazic, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother-in-law, A.J. Schmidtberger, Victoria; a sister-in-law, Jo Sander, Victoria; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edgar, Alfred and Hubert Sander; and five sisters, Georgine Dreiling, Virginia Cardwell, Sister Sarah Sander CSA, Thelma Riedel and Celeste Schmidtberger.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, with military honors by the Victoria VFW.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Third and Fourth Degree rosary at 7 p.m., all at the mortuary. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Fidelis Church or Victoria VFW in care of the mortuary.
