Valentine Schumacher

Valentine "Tina" Schumacher, 90, Hays, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at St. John's of Hays Nursing Home.

She was born July 29, 1917, in Catherine to Ignatius and Rosa (Befort) Polifka.

She married Adolf J. Schumacher on April 4, 1945, in Catherine. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1984. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society Christian Mothers, Hays.

Survivors include a son, Roger A. Schumacher and wife, Diane, Pinehurst, N.C.; a daughter, Nadine Arevalo and husband, Rodolfo, Cheney, Wash.; five grandchildren, Ashley Schumacher, Krista Whitley, Kim Terry, Jamie Schmidt and Mike Geibler; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Schumacher, a brother, Frank Polifka, and five sisters, Anna Walters, Ida Walters, Stella Polifka, Bertha Schutz and Lidwina Walters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 Friday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine.

A Altar Society Christian Mothers rosary will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A vigil will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
