Shirley E. Schendzielos, 63, Hays, formerly of Rush Center, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at St. John's Health Care, Hays.

She was born April 26, 1946, in Lyons to Herman and Sarah (Scott) Bayer. She was a 1964 graduate of Chase High School and attended college in Denver and Fort Hays State University.

She married Arthur Schendzielos. She was a renaissance worker.

Survivors include a son, Kurt M. Schendzielos and wife, Naomi, Honolulu; a daughter, Danielle R. Schendzielos and fiance, James Adams, Overland Park; a brother, Floyd Bayer, El Dorado; three sisters, Carol Reynolds, Rush Center, Esther Delimont, Lebanon, and Elizabeth Bomba, Garden City; and two grandchildren, Rachel Schendzielos and Basia Schendzielos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Louise Carlson; and an infant sister, Elnora Bayer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, La Crosse; cremation will take place after service, with inurnment at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Stroke Recovery Research and Wellness Center at Fort Hays State University, Hays, in care of the funeral home.
