Shirley Kay Basgall

Shirley Kay Basgall, 61, Ransom, died June 29, 2009, at her home after multiple courageous battles with cancer.

She was born April 2, 1948, to Wally and Burdene Fairbank Schweitzer. She was a graduate of Ransom High School and Brown Mackie College, Salina.

She married Leslie Basgall on June 20, 1970, in Wichita. She worked for Kansas Fish and Game for several years and was a secretary at Ransom Grade School and Western Plains Elementary for 26 years.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Jason and wife, Noel, Ellis; two daughters, Jennifer Winebrenner and husband, Erick, Salina, and Joni Kisslinger and husband, Dusty, Ransom; three sisters, Cindy Berry and Anna Mae Klitzke, Ransom, and Betty Atkinson, Amarillo, Texas; a brother, Wally Schweitzer, Ransom; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Western Plains High School; burial in Ransom Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Shirley Basgall Scholarship fund in care of the funeral home.
