Sidney George Hopkins

Sidney George Hopkins, 91, Dallas, formerly of Hays and Hutchinson, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.

He was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan. He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in July 1946.

He married Emilie Shepherd on Dec. 24, 1946. She preceded him in death. He worked for the State of Kansas Division of Vocational Education. In 1968, the family moved to Dallas, where he worked for Gas Equipment Rochester Gauges before retiring in 1981. He was a U.S Army veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of the Town North Tigers Barbershop Chorus, St. Paul Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ and the Scottish Society of Dallas.

Survivors include a son, Philip Hopkins and wife, Jackie, Pearland, Texas; a daughter, Rebecca Hopkins, Mesquite; a brother, Bill Hopkins, Tallahassee, Fla.; and two grandchildren Patrick and Emilie Hopkins, Pearland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sarah Hopkins.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul E.R. United Church of Christ, 6464 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas, TX 75231.

Memorials are suggested to the church.
