Starr F. Schlobohm, age 83, of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, died Friday, February 3, 2012, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts.

In 1986, Starr began owning and operating oil and gas leases and farm real estate in the west-central Kansas area. He was the owner of Starr F. Schlobohm Oil Operations and an owner of Royal Drilling Inc. of Russell, Kansas.

Starr was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 27, 1928, the son of the late Frederick G. and Ina May (Starr) Schlobohm. He graduated summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1950 as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Debate Team and the editor of the yearbook during his junior year. He also graduated from Harvard Business School in 1952 with Highest Honors ranking first in his class of 500.

From 1952 to 1954 he served his country with the United States Air Force, being discharged as a lieutenant.

Starr worked for Reader's Digest in New York City from 1960 to 1978 as director of marketing/advertising sales. After leaving there, he returned to school and received his doctorate degree in marketing and economics from New York University. From 1978 to 1997 he was a professor of economics and business administration at the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School.

He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Burns (Whittemore) Schlobohm of Wolfeboro; daughter Pamela Kay Schlobohm of Santa Monica, California, and son Starr F. Schlobohm Jr., of Cape Cod, Massachusetts;and four stepchildren, Kenneth Burns of Wilton Manors, Florida, Martha Burns of Nashua, New Hampshire, Dana Burns of Chelmsford, Massachusetts,Andrew Burns of Hamilton, Ohio; a sister, Joan Stapf, of Parma, Ohio; a niece, Karen Walter; a nephew, Brian Stapf; two great nephews, a great niece and six stepgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. February 14, 2012, at First Christian Church in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
