Elsie Marie Stegman, 79, Hays, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at St. John's Rest Home, Victoria.

She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Pfeifer, to Anthony and Regina (Jacobs) Jacobs.

She was a 1948 graduate of Schoenchen High School.

She was a homemaker. She was the co-founder and former member of the Hays Gospel Singers and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

She married Felix Stegman on Sept. 7, 1948, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pfeifer.

Survivors include six daughters, Sharon Rollins and husband, Phil, King George, Va., Pam Reitmeyer, Kansas City, Kan., Dorrene Wahlmeier and husband, Cam, Wamego, Shelly Harrell and Faye Wiesner and husband, Ron, Hays, and Tracy Augustine and husband, Jeff, Ellis; five sons, Gregg Stegman and wife, Michelle, Nettie, W.Va., Brad Stegman, Great Bend, Wes Stegman and wife, Missy, Beaverton, Ore., Mark Stegman, Hays, and Brent Stegman and wife, Kelly, Olathe; a brother, Wayne Jacobs, Pfeifer; seven sisters, Darlene Sanders, Hays, Wilma Kuhn, Salina, Eva Jacobs and Delores Unrein, Broomfield, Colo., Rosaline Unrein, Strasburg, Colo., Isabelle Schukman, Aurora, Colo., and Carol Moeder, Arvada, Colo.; 34 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sons, Stan, Eldon and Bruce Stegman; a brother, Marvin Jacobs; and three sisters, Lucille Dreher, Theresa Bieker and Cecilia Jacobs.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pfeifer; burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, Hays. A parish vigil will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a rosary service at 6 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
