Sylvester F. 'Sonny' Urban

Sylvester F. "Sonny" Urban, 82, Liebenthal, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse.

He was born Aug. 7, 1930, in rural Rush County. He was a 1949 graduate of Schoenchen High School.

He married Dorothy Ann Herrman on June 2, 1956, in Liebenthal. She preceded him in death Nov. 23, 1978. He was the owner and operator of Sonny's Tavern in Liebenthal, prior to retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from May 3, 1954, to March 15, 1956.

Survivors include a sister, Juanita Schaffer, La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Joe, George, Tony, Benedict and Daniel; six sisters, Regina Weiser, Anna Haberman, Monica Urban, Barbara Sander, Philomena Landau-Cassan, Eva Marie Niedens; and two infant sisters, Maria Urban and Juliana Urban.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liebenthal; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, and from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. Saturday at the church.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Masses or Friendship Meals of Southwest Kansas, in care of the funeral home.
