Sylvia Ann (Drees) Mori

Sylvia Ann (Drees) Mori, 77, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, Ore.

She was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Hays to James A."Jack" and Mildred A. (Joy) Drees. She was a graduate of Girls Catholic High School and Fort Hays State College, both in Hays.

She married Melvin "Mel" Mori on Feb. 22, 1962, at Wheelus Air Force Base, Tripoli, Libya. She was an elementary school teacher who began her teaching career in Hutchinson. She later taught for several years in Denver and taught abroad at Wheelus Air Force Base. They then moved to Portland, where she taught for many years at James John Elementary, prior to her retirement in 1992.

She enjoyed bowling, Bunco, attending the Oregon Symphony and caring for her family. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Dino R. Mori, Washougal, Wash.; and a brother, James H. Drees, Hays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kimberly A. Mori; and a brother, Donald E. Drees.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; inurnment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Ellis County Historical Society or Ellis County Humane Society.
