Teckla Karlin Werth, 101, died October 10, 2012, at Thousand Oaks, California. Teckla and her twin sister, Isabelle, were born on April 7, 1911, to Frank E. Karlin and Anna M. Schmidt Karlin. Both girls worked on the farm in Catharine, KS, helping their parents either in the house cooking, sewing, taking care of younger siblings or working in the fields with their dad.

Teckla moved with her sister to Southern CA, where each made it their new home. Her future husband, Henry Werth, moved to Southern CA in the mid 30's. After reuniting again, Teckla and Henry married in November, 1940. Then in 1972, they returned to KS, and in 1986 they moved to Hays and became parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Teckla loved working for the church and the school where her two daughters attended. You would find Teckla in CA and KS volunteering to work for the parish. She loved to sew and put her skills to good use by sewing vestments and altar linens. She loved helping the women serving dinners at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Teckla would volunteer to raise funds for various charitable organizations in her free time.

Being a lector and Eucharistic minister gave her the greatest joy. Each morning she would attend Mass and you would find her setting up for the Liturgy and preparing her reading. After Mass she was there clearing the vessels and getting the church laundry ready to launder. Mom loved being involved with the church. Even when she moved to CA to be with her daughter, Sr. Karlynn, a Sister of Notre Dame, at St. John of God, you would find Teckla volunteering to be lector at the Sunday, weekday and special occasion liturgies. One of her greatest sacrifices was her inability of attending Mass in the last 9 months of her life.

Teckla led a full life, and wherever she could be of help, you would find her there. To summarize her life: she loved her family, friends and church and would lovingly, joyfully and gladly give of her time and talents for them.

Survivors include her daughter, Sr. Karlynn Werth of Thousand Oaks, CA, and her sister, Sr. Lois Karlin of Fond du Lac, WI. She was preceded in death by brothers, Alvin Karlin, Benno Karlin, Fr. Paulinus Karlin, Eugene Karlin, Marne Karlin, Wilfrick Karlin, Cletus Karlin, and Francis Karlin, and sisters, Sr. Mary Katherine Karlin, Sr. Marcella Karlin, Isabelle Linenberger, Sr. Frances Ann Karlin and Sr. Anne Karlin.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Cemetery, Catharine, Kansas. A combined Altar Society Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:00 pm followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 on Wednesday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:30 on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Sisters of Notre Dame, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com.
