Thomas 'Tom' Hammerschmidt

Thomas "Tom" Hammerschmidt, 61, Keyes, Okla., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Morton County Care Center, Elkhart.

He was born May 13, 1952, in Hays to Joseph and Matilda (Kuhn) Hammerschmidt. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1971.

He worked as a self-employed truck driver, living in Moscow, Hugoton and Elkhart, before moving to Keyes in 2007. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Boise City.

He married Rhonda Ann Williams on July 7, 2007, in Guymon, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ernie, Bob, Leo and Pete Hammerschmidt; and a sister, Rose Heidel.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; two sons, Travis Hammerschmidt and Seth Hammerschmidt and wife, Ashley, all of Elkhart; two stepchildren, Stephanie Betts, Lubbock, Texas, and Brian Barnum, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Devan and Sunnie Hammerschmidt, Addison and Landri Betts, and Lola and Isaac Barnum; two brothers, Leon Hammerschmidt and Bill Hammerschmidt, both of Plainville; and five sisters, Alice Arnold and Marry Hammersmith, both of Hutchinson, Elaine Sunley, Hays, JoAnn Jacobs, La Crosse, and Theresa Conboy, Topeka.

His funeral services were Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Elkhart; burial in the Elkhart Cemetery. Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, Guymon, Okla., was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice and sent to Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
