Verlyn R. "Bud" Fisher, 87, Lakin, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Good Samaritan Center, Hays.

He was born May 22, 1925, in McPherson to Harold and Dorothy Fisher. He attended McPherson schools and graduated from McPherson College.

He married Betty Lou Jamison on Aug. 24, 1947, in Quinter. She preceded him in death May 31, 2010. He was an industrial arts teacher and coach. He taught in Chase from 1949 to 1962, Lakin from 1962 to 1981 and moved to Red River, N.M., in 1981. He moved to Hays in 2010.

He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking projects, bus sight-seeing tours, cheering the KU Jayhawks and traveling throughout the state attending his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events.

Survivors include a son, Barry Fisher and wife, Stacey, Pratt; a daughter, Sandra Oakley and husband, Wesley, Hays; 12 grandchildren, Melanie Petz, Melissa Oakley, Jamie Fisher, Molly Smith, Lindsey McCray, Cody Fisher, Christin Nunnery, Seth Oakley, Brett Reynolds-Fisher, Brooke Fisher, Samuel Fisher and Stephen Fisher; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Fisher; and a brother, DeWayne Fisher.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesleyan Church, Lakin; burial in Lakin Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin.

Memorials are suggested to McPherson College in care of the funeral home.
