Virgil J. Pfannenstiel

Virgil J. Pfannenstiel, 85, WaKeeney, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home in Cedar Bluff Estates, near Cedar Bluff State Park.
He was born April 15, 1928, in Ellis to Jacob Matthew and Anna Marie (Dreiling) Pfannenstiel.
He married LuVerna C. Freitag on May 10, 1948, in Hays. She preceded him in death Dec. 29, 2005. He was a mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Pfannenstiel and Rick Pfannenstiel, both of WaKeeney; seven daughters, Carol Rumback, Union, Mo., Judy Klaus, Munjor, Joyce Hertel, Hays, Diane Buchholz, Ellsworth, Vera Murphy and Kathy Meiar, both of WaKeeney, and Susan Pfannenstiel, Great Bend; a brother, James, Dadsville, Ala.; two sisters, Barbara Dinkel, Littleton, Colo., and Irene Dreiling, Ellis; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church of WaKeeney; burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with a vigil immediately following, both at the Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Bluff Lake Association in care of the funeral home.
