William "Bill" Fredrich Hachmeister, 67, Hilo, Hawaii, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1946, in Russell to Fred and Marguerite (O'Brien) Hachmeister. He grew up in Natoma and the age of 6 moved to Denver. He completed high school in 1964.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran in Vietnam. After his military service, he returned to Denver, where he received a degree in computer programming. He was dedicated to fight for the medical rights for soldiers (himself included) affected by agent orange and other physical disabilities while serving. At the time of his death, he still was pursuing that mission.

Survivors include two sons, Julian and Felix Hachmeister, Hawaii; a sister, Marilyn (Hachmeister) Martinez, Aurora, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Colorado and Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Richard and John Hachmeister; and a sister, Beverly (Hachmeister) Punch.

A graveside committal service with military honors is pending in Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, Hilo.
