William M. Maskus, 89, Jetmore, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Fort Dodge Halsey Hall, Dodge City.

He was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Jetmore to George and Alta Morris Maskus.

He married Irene Elizabeth Weiss on Oct. 24, 1948, in Ford County. He was a lifetime area resident. He was a farmer and cattleman. He drove a school bus for Jetmore public schools for 14 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II from 1944 to 1946, where he was wounded on Okinawa on April 30, 1945, and received the Combat Infantryman Badge, two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Dodge City, and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include two sons, Bill G. Maskus and wife, Lana, Wright, and Stan D. Maskus and wife, Donna, Hays; a daughter, Shirley Jaeger and husband, Jeff, Hutchinson; three brothers, Robert and wife, Nancy, Jetmore, Jim and wife, Pat, Edmond, Okla., and Richard and wife, Linda, Platte City, Mo.; two sisters, Phyllis Weiss and husband, Everett, Offerle, and Helen Wetzel and husband, Edgar, Great Bend; five grandchildren, Mark and Matthew Maskus, Megan Scheve and husband, Justin, Jacob Jaeger and wife, Dani, and Mitchell Jaeger; and a great-granddaughter, Savanna Scheve.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Maskus; two brothers, Paul and Jack Maskus; and two sisters, Jean Bushell and Joyce Koehn.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Dodge City; burial in St. Michael Lutheran Cemetery, southwest Hodgeman County,

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund, KGNO Lutheran Hour or Hodgeman County Health Center in care of the funeral home.
