William Ray 'Bill' Clair

William Ray "Bill" Clair, 85, Hays, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1928, in rural Natoma to Orley and Julia (Finch) Clair. He grew up on a farm in Ellis County.

He married Lois Stevens. He later married Felisa Ruperto on June 20, 1970, in Las Vegas. He was a business manager for Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota dealership in southern California. He was a farmer and oil businessman. He moved back to Kansas in 1975. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and entered during his senior year at Paradise High School.

He was a member of Church of the Nazarene. Hays.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Ray Clair and wife, Lucy, Long Beach, Calif., and John Tapaoan, Lenexa; two daughters, Karla Clair, Independence, Mo., and Dina Pruter and husband, Doug, Hays; two sisters, Orva Lee Day, Independence, Mo., and Judy Warner, Yorba Linda, Calif.; a son-in-law, Jerry Huffman, Huntington Beach, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, Christopher Huffman, Amanda Huffman, Timothy Huffman, Eva Lutz, Robin Huffman-Kelly, Matthew Clair, Michael Clair, Hannah Clair, Amber Pool, Blake Pruter, Brad Pruter, Boone Pruter, Shawn O'Brate and Cooper Tapaoan; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Zoe Leeta Huffman; a sister, Orleta Wells; two brothers, Budd Clair and Jerry Clair; and a grandson, John Huffman.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nazarene, Seventh and Allen, Hays; with military honors by the Hays VFW Post No. 9076; a private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Ellinwood District Hospital, 605 N. Main, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601, is in charge of arrangements.
