Wilma Jane "Billie" North, 82, Ness City, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1930, in Ransom to William F. and Enid C. Buxton Scott.

She married Dewey Keith North on July 15, 1948, in Dighton. He preceded her in death May 23, 2009.

She was an elementary school teacher.

She was a member of National Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Lynn North and wife, Judy, Lubbock, Texas, and Daniel Curtis North and wife, Mary, Sammamish, Wash.; two daughters, Laura Ann Betz and husband, Dennis, Greeley, Colo., and Joy E. Schell and husband, James, Ness City; two brothers, Richard C. Scott and wife, Pricilla, Kansas City, Kan., and Tom Scott and wife, Marabeth, Topeka; a sister, Donna North and husband, Harley, Brownell; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Patrick Donovan Jochum; and a great-grandson, Hunter North.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Mennonite Church, Ransom; burial in McCracken Cemetery, McCracken. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family present from 7 to 9 p.m., both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorials are suggested to First Mennonite Church, Ransom, or DeBakey Heart Institute, Hays, in care of the funeral home.
