Wilma Jean Gillespie

Wilma Jean Gillespie, 87, Quinter, formerly of rural Grainfield, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care.

She was born Nov. 19, 1925, in rural Gove County to Lewis William "L.W." and Florence J. (Rogers) Roberts. She was a graduate of Gove High School.

She married Delmar James "Hap" Gillespie on Aug. 28, 1948, in Quinter. He preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1980.  She started the Meals on Wheels program and Senior Citizen Center in Grainfield.  

Survivors include four sons, Jimmie Gillespie, Colorado Springs, Colo., Kirby Gillespie, Quinter, Mitchell Gillespie and Michael Gillespie, both of Grainfield; four daughters, Brenda Traugott, Wichita, Gladys Billinger, Victoria, Connie Weber, Quinter, and Sharon Beougher, Hays; 24 grandchildren; and  30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Quinter; burial in Grainfield City Cemetery.  

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with family present to greet friends at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.  

Memorials are suggested to the Quinter Ambulance Service or the Grainfield Opera House in care of the funeral home.
