Kenneth Ross Metzler, 71, Ellis, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Wichita to Walter and Alberta (Tawney) Metzler.
He was raised on a farm near Ogallah until age 14, when the family moved to WaKeeney. He graduated from Trego Community High School in 1960 and attended Emporia State University.
He married Margaret Honas in Biloxi, Miss., on Jan. 29, 1963.
He was employed in the oil field for about 20 years, then drove semis professionally for about 20 years. He was a veteran of the Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and treasure hunting. He was a member of DeMolay, the American Legion, and the Sons of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; two daughters, Lisa Morton and husband, Royce, Ellis, and Lori Zimmerman and husband, Brian, Ulysses; three sons, David Metzler and wife Holly, Dodge City, James Metzler and wife Becky, Ellis, and Neal Metzler and Terrisa Metzler, Castle Rock, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; Austin Morton and wife, Nicole, Matt Morton and wife, Kristi, Rachel Zimmerman, Clayton Zimmerman, Jody Zimmerman, Jessica Mick and fiance, Ryan Shenk, Amanda Metzler, Cori Scobee, Dakota Metzler, Colton Metzler, Ethan Metzler and Connor Metzler; and five great-grandchildren; Chevelle Morton, Braxton Morton, Raylen Morton, Hunter Shenk and Noah Scobe.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis; inurnment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.
