Gary George Helget, 69, Schoenchen, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Schoenchen. He was born July 29, 1947, in Hays to George and Alberta (Huber) Helget. He was a 1965 graduate of Ellis High School.
He was a truck driver for APAC for 30 years and worked for Travenol for 10 years after he worked with Bob Munsch Auction.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen 3rd degree Knights of Columbus and the Bishop Cunningham 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Sons of the American Legion post No. 173 and the American Legion Riders post No. 173.
He enjoyed playing guitar with Johnny and the Rebels and various other area polka bands, riding motorcycles, especially his Tri-Glide, and hunting with his son.
Survivors include a son, Wade Helget and wife, Amy and children, Kevin, Robin, Peyton and Ethan Helget all of Rose Hill; a brother, Bob Helget and wife, Bernie, Hays; and a sister, Gloria Wilson, La Crosse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, BJ Wilson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen; inurnment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a combined Schoenchen Council 3rd degree and Bishop Cunningham 4th degree Knights of Columbus rosary, both at funeral chapel.
Memorial are suggested to the Harold Dorzweiler Cancer Memorial Fund in care of the funeral chapel.
