Janet Lynn (Moeder) Crawford, 47, Spearfish, S.D., formerly of Hays, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 22, 2017, at her home.

She was born March 5, 1970, in Hays to John E. and Dorothy A. (Werth) Moeder. She was a 1988 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School and received her degree in nursing from Fort Hays State University in 1995.

She married Chris Crawford on Aug. 13, 1994. She spent her nursing career at Hays Medical Center as a registered nurse in the emergency and recovery rooms. She also worked in the Cardiac Care Unit at HMC.

She was passionate about helping and caring for others. She enjoyed traveling with her family, and was especially intrigued with visiting lighthouses across the country. They have spent the last year living in Spearfish making their way through many new adventures. She enjoyed volunteering at Black Hills State University, and her local Kiwanis group, and attending Countryside Community Church.

Survivors include her husband; their children, Dane Crawford, Andrea Bednar and husband, Luke, and Alek Crawford and wife, Shyla; her parents; a brother, John Gary Moeder and wife, Amy; two sisters, Joannah Applequist and husband, Myron, and Julie Brull and husband, Jeffrey; four grandsons, Tavis, Noah, Brantley, Elijah; and many more family members and dear friends. 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Robbins Center, north of Gross Memorial Coliseum, on the campus of Fort Hays State University; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601 and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the Robbins Center, One Tiger Place.

Memorials are suggested to TMP or to Department of Nursing at Fort Hays State University, in care of the funeral home.
