Dottie Arleen Gillen, 89, Centennial Colo., formerly of Meade, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Peakview Assisted Living, Centennial.

She was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Jennings to George J. and Essie M. (Denney) Tacha. She grew up in Jennings, Oberlin, and Meade and was a 1946 graduate of Meade High School.

She married Lawrence J. Gillen on July 23, 1951, in Meade. He preceded her in death June 28, 2001. She retired in 1988 from Meade Grade School where she was the secretary. Prior to working at Meade Grade School she also had been secretary in the offices of Wilson and Beard, Attorneys at Law, the USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Meade District Hospital in the medical records division and Meade High School.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Meade. She had been a member of the Maia Club and served as den mother to her sons cub scout troops. She and her husband enjoyed bowling, square-dancing in their younger days and she enjoyed sewing, crafting, and quilting.

Survivors include two sons, James D. “Jim” Gillen and wife, Terri, Aurora Colo., and Robert L. “Bob” Gillen and wife, Pam, Hays; a sister, Peggy Thompson, Meade; two sisters-in-law, Carol Tacha, Meade, and Marjorie Gillen, Omaha Neb.; six grandchildren, Jamee Ulitzky and husband, Josh, J.D. Gillen and wife, Emily, Kelsey Smyth and husband, Steven, Amanda Lloyd (J), Valerie Bryant and husband, Scott, and Rachel Gillen; nine great-grandchildren, Lexi Gillen, Joey Ulitzky, Aspen Gillen, Jordan Ulitzky, Julia Ulitzky, Karaline Lloyd, Anderson Bryant, Griffin Lloyd, and Connor Bryant; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Richard G. Tacha, Darrell J. Tacha, Kenneth M. (Bub) Tacha, and George J. (Junior) Tacha; and four sisters, Gertrude M. (Gertie) Hunter, Kathleen E. Boyd, Marjorie M. Bruce, and Betty L. Kortz.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Church, Meade; burial in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
