Martha Bertha Peschka, 89, Salina, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017.

She was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Ransom to Theresia (Weber) and Joseph Flax.

She married Francis J. Peschka on March 27, 1950, in Great Bend. He preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1998. While living in Great Bend, she was a house painter and they adopted two daughters and took in many foster children. She worked in food service for USD 305 and volunteered many hours at the Salina Food Bank. She and her husband received the JCPenney Volunteer of the Year for the Bread Ministry. 

She was a member of RSVP and St. Mary Catholic Church, Salina. 

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Brittain and husband, Leon, and Cheryl Gulickson, all of Great Bend; two sisters, Sister Doris Marie Flax, Ellis, and Catherine O'Hare, Hometown, Ill.; three grandchildren, Adrian Brittain, Canon City, Colo., Austin Brittain and wife, Yuki, Sasebo, Japan, and Sarah Gulickson, Tucson, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren, Gage Gulickson, Tucson, and Trinity and Amanda Brittain, Sasebo. 

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Prather; and seven brothers, Joseph, Albert, Francis, George, John, Paul and Leonard Flax.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Salina; graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Great Bend Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina.
