Gregory A. Wasinger, 89, Hays, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Via Christi Village in Hays.

He was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Hays to Frank and Mary (Kisner) Wasinger. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy and received a bachelor’s degree at Fort Hays Kansas State College.

He married Sylvia Boudreau on Sept. 26, 1953. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage. She preceded him in death Dec. 15, 2014. He was a farmer and retired from St. Anthony Hospital, working in the maintenance department. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9076 and Knight of Columbus, all of Hays.

Survivors include a son, Gerard Wasinger and wife, Lynette, Hays; a daughter, Kathleen Horlick and husband, Royal, Leawood; two grandsons, Joel Wasinger and wife, Sarah, Hays, and Blake Wasinger and wife, Teresa, Garden City; and two great-grandchildren, Maddison and Matthew Wasinger, both of Garden City.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hay; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by the Hays VFW Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a rosary, both at the funeral chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Masses in care of the funeral chapel.
