Hilda Edna Zerfas, 97, Manhattan, died Thursday Sept. 21, 2017, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, Manhattan.
She was born April 9, 1920, in Trego County to David and Eva (Dietz) Meisner. She grew up in Trego County, attended schools in the area and graduated from high school in 1938.
She married Harold Zerfas on Jan. 11, 1942, in Ellis. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Manhattan, the LWML and taught Sunday school for many years.
Her passion was quilting, and her life goal was making a quilt for everyone in her family. She spent many hours to make quilts for her grandchildren. Her family was so important to her especially the grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and tried to make a German dish for them, and she enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle.
Survivors include two sons, David Zerfas and wife, Kim, Manhattan, and Tom Zerfas and wife, Juanita, Hays; a daughter, Jennifer Lindsey, Colby; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother and six sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Manhattan; graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.
Family will greet friends during a visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan.
Memorial are suggested to Meadowlark Hills Good Samaritan Fund in care of the funeral home.
