Ernest W. Schmeidler, 93, Wichita, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, in Wichita.
He was born March 25, 1924, in Hays to William J. and Rose (Wolf) Schmeidler. He attended St Joseph Military Academy in Hays.
When his military service was complete, he returned to Kansas and began a career in management. He found his greatest satisfaction in sales and meeting people. He was a lifetime independent learner. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He enjoyed gardening, puzzles, watching sports, dancing and cared about the Catholic church and longed to see the priesthood thrive.
Survivors include two sisters, Carol Romme and husband, Mel, Overland Park, and Jeanette Flax, Topeka; and a sister-in-law, Joan Schmeidler, Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Jeanie” (Schmidtberger); his parents; his siblings, Bill, James, Sr. Bonaventure; and a brother-in-law, Rudy Flax.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria; burial in the parish cemetery, with military honors courtesy of the Victoria Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family receiving guests at 6 p.m. at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
A prayer service/ rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
