Edward “Ed” Heronema, 73, Hays, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1944, in Hays to William and Alvina (Rupp) Heronema. He attended school at Jefferson West Grade School in Hays and was a 1962 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy, Hays.

He married Joanna “Jo” DeMoss on Jan. 30, 1988, in Pratt. He was a longtime chemical salesman in the oil industry. He had worked for C.O. Mammals, Tretolite Chemicals and retired in 2009 from Baker Hughes.

He was a St. Joseph Council Third Degree Knights of Columbus member, and a member of Sons of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sons of the American Legion.

He enjoyed spending time riding his Trike Motorcycle, being with his wife and family and will be remembered for being a quick-witted salesman.

Survivors include his wife, of 29 years, of the home; three sons, Lee Heronema and wife, Jennifer, Midland, Mich., Myron Heronema, Garland, Texas, and Mike Heronema and wife, Carmen, Mustang, Okla.; a stepson, Terry Wilbourn, Brush, Colo.; a daughter, Marla Heronema, Derby; a stepdaughter, Sherri Bottom and husband, Darren, Little River; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leroy Heronema.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, both at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a St. Joseph Council Third Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., both at the funeral chapel.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church Remodeling Project in care of the funeral chapel.
