Gerald “Jerry” Everett Herman, 70, Holiday Island, Ark., died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017.

He was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Hays to Henry and Bertha Herman. He attended school in Gorham, playing multiple sports and excelling at them all. He attended Fort Hays State University and later attended Kansas State University, receiving a degree in business administration and obtained his certified public accountant certification.

He married Dianne on May 27, 1974, in Las Vegas. He worked for Becker Corp. in El Dorado for 18 years and Transplace Corp. in Stuttgart, Ark., for 20 years, retiring seven months ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a captain in the Army and served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot.

He took such pride in his kids and was very wary of any boys coming around to date his daughters. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the country club playing golf. He held season tickets to Kansas State football games, and enjoyed tailgating before and after games. He enjoyed reading books and scripture, and spending time with family and friends. He made it a point to stay connected to others and always helped whenever he saw someone in need. He was hardworking, a friend to everyone, full of wisdom and always honest.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Chad and wife, Kendall; two daughters, Stacia and husband, Lance and Tara and husband, Matt; a brother, Chris Herman; a sister, Eileen Brungardt; eight grandchildren, Baylor Herman, Linden Herman, Callan Herman, Soren Herman, Conner Thompson, Brock Thompson, Gavin Morrow and Chase Morrow; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Heights Baptist Church, Berryville, Ark.

A viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
