John K. Habiger, 69, Bushton, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.
He was born Sept. 6, 1948, in Great Bend to Paul and Anna (Heinz) Habiger. He was a graduate of Holy Name and Bushton High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1970 at Fort Hays State University.
He was an agricultural agent and traveled in parts of Turkey and Afghanistan. Back in Bushton, he was an agent with Federal Crop Insurance Corp. and postmaster relief in Bushton. He was a U.S. Peace Corp volunteer in the Kurdistan Providence of Iran.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his mother, Bushton; three brothers, Virgil Habiger and wife, Geri, Raymond Habiger and wife, Roxanna, and James Habiger and wife, Sharon, all of Bushton; and a sister, Roberta Habiger and partner, John, St. George, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his father on May 15, 1983; and his partner for 26 years, Mary Mickel on Jan. 2, 2017.
He has donated his body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine and then will be cremated, per his request.
Services are pending and will be at a later date.
