John Morris Kirgis, 95, Russell, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Russell Regional Hospital.

He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Beloit to Frank John and Pansy I. (Green) Kirgis. He was a 1939 graduate of Beloit High School and attended Kansas State University.

He married Rosalie DePoy on Dec. 8, 1946, in Denver. She preceded him in death Jan. 4, 1995. He worked as a quality control representative for the U.S. Department of Defense. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Survivors include a son, Tom Kirgis, Woodston; three daughters, Beverly McGuire, Red Oak, Texas, Cindy Leslie, Alvarado, Texas, and Judith Yates, San Marcus, Texas; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his companion, Ann Potter, Russell.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Lee Monday and Sheri Rodgers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell with military rites by Russell VFW Post No. 6240 Honor Guard. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cawker City.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with family greeting guests from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials are suggested to Russell Senior Center or Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in care of the mortuary.
