Lucille (Dreiling) Flax, 94, formerly of Ellis, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Chapman Valley Manor.
She was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Ellis to Mike and Rosa (Leiker) Dreiling.
She married Fred Flax on Aug. 8, 1944, in Ellis. He preceded her in death March 2, 1984. She was a homemaker and farm wife.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary School, where she served on the school board and the Home and School Association.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed Jeopardy and playing pinochle. She was a New York Yankees fan and enjoyed Kansas City Royals She was very fond of her granddaughters.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Dinkel and husband, Allen, Junction City; a brother, Paul Dreiling, Ellis; two sisters, Clementine “Marie” Kuhn, Hays, and Henrietta Herl, Ashland; three granddaughters, Emily Gibson and husband, Jason, Canton, Wendy Dinkel and husband, Ryan Conrade, Lindsborg, and Macey Dinkel, Stafford; four great-granddaughters, Delaney, Dakota and Daylen Gibson and Brenna Conrade; and a great-grandson, Kellen Conrade.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rosabel Flax; a brother, Arthur J. Dreiling; and a sister, Freda Weber.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.
A combined rosary/vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary School or Chapman Valley Manor in care of the funeral chapel.
