Michael F. “Mike” Herrman, 74, Schoenchen, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse.

He was born Sept. 27, 1943, near Liebenthal to Isidore and Albertina (Legleiter) Herrman. He was a 1961 graduate of La Crosse High School and a 1962 graduate of Colorado Technical Institute, Denver.

He married Alice (Mermis) Munsch on April 23, 2004, in Hays. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he was an electronics technician (radar). After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1966, he worked for RCA, for the NASA Space Center in Houston, for Sperry Univac and Unisys in Houston for 23 years and for Glassman Corp. in Hays for 15 years until his retirement in 2013.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen.

He enjoyed to hunt, fish, play cards and attend grandchildren’s sporting events. He was also a history buff, dog lover and enjoyed to dance.

Survivors include his wife, Alice, of the home; two stepsons, Troy Munsch and wife, Laura, Salina, and Les Munsch and wife, Cathie, Thornton, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Stacey Walters and husband, Bob, Kingman; a brother; William “Bill” Herrman and wife, Lucy, La Crosse; five sisters, Viola Depperschmidt, La Crosse, Henrietta Haselhorst, Hays, Mary C. Dreher, Plainville, Lillian Leiker, Schoenchen, and Georgiana Herrman, Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen; burial in the church cemetery, with military honors by the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a rosary led by the St. Anthony Altar Society at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to charities to be determined later in care of the funeral home.
