Gary Lee Rohr, 72, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, after a courageous 22-month battle with cancer.

He was born and raised in Hays. He was a 1963 graduate of Hays High School and attended Long Beach City College.

He later moved to Colorado. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer Second Class. During his years in the Navy, he married Marilyn Sleight. He worked as an electrician's apprentice. He later was hired by Prudential Insurance, which relocated him to Bakersfield, Calif. He earned many citations and excelled during his 24-year career with the company and retired as a successful executive. After retirement, he married Julia Rohr. He continued to pursue new ventures long after retirement, which led him to begin a career as a licensed public adjuster.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and served as Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus organization.

He enjoyed golf and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Joshua Rohr and wife, Virginia; a grandson, Lukas Rohr; two brothers, Harry and Larry Rohr; a sister, Jackie Stremel; his stepchildren, Shawna Dulan and husband, Ronnie, Chad Spear and wife, Erin, and Megan Spear; a grandson, Lukas Rohr; and six step-grandchildren, Haley, Pollie, and Abigale Dulan, Liam, Lillian and Landon Spear.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Rohr II; a brother and best friend, Rick Rohr; and his parents, Harold Rohr and Evelyn Younger.
