Carol Rae (Shafer) Hartman, 69, Park, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at her home.
She was born July 30, 1948, in Colby to Howard and Freda (Shipley) Shafer. She was a 1966 graduate of Hoxie High School and attended Sidney’s Hairdressing College in Hays.
She married James Hartman on Sept. 27, 1980, in Studley. She owned her own beauty salon in Hoxie for several years. They made their home on a farm at Park where they farmed and raised cattle. She enjoyed working alongside him during harvest and working the cattle. She also drove a school bus for almost 30 years and enjoyed being around the children.
She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mitchell Hartman and wife, Nicole, Yocemento; a daughter, Kelli Schleret and husband, Cory, stationed in Las Vegas; a sister, Roxie Train and husband, Raymond, Newton; two brothers-in-law, Robert Hartman and wife, Kathy, Grainfield, and Elmer Hartman and wife, Laverna, Denver; a sister-in-law, Rosie Hartman, Quinter; a granddaughter, Katelyn Rae Hartman; five step-grandchildren, Seth, Ava and Sage Schwien and Riley and Aiden Schleret; and five aunts, Gladys Woofter Rita Hartma, Della Jean Shipley and Maxine Shipley, all of Hoxie, and Mary Heckendorn, Denver.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers-in-law, Doug, Ralph, Frank, Delmar and Albert Hartman; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Hartman.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield.
A rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Trego County Medical Center, St. Jude’s, or Hospice, in care of the mortuary.
